OUTDOOR PIRATE / ABOUT

PAUL CLARKE

AUSTRALIAN MOUNTAINEER · EXPLORER · ADVENTURER

Outdoor Pirate documents Paul Clarke’s pursuit of ambitious objectives in the mountains and beyond, the expeditions, uncertainty, successes, failures and experiences that come with the journey.

THE STORY

THE JOURNEY MATTERS AS MUCH AS THE SUMMIT.

Outdoor Pirate records a goal-driven life shaped by difficult objectives, changing plans and the experiences that unfold between departure and return.

A personal record of expeditions, uncertainty and the stories that come with both.

WHY THE MOUNTAINS

THE MOUNTAIN RARELY GOES TO PLAN.

I’m drawn to the challenge, the problem solving and the uncertainty. The summit provides the motivation to keep moving when an expedition becomes difficult, uncomfortable or uncertain, but the real attraction is everything required to get there. The world’s 8,000-metre mountains are particularly compelling for their scale, length, complexity and extreme altitude. They can take weeks, conditions shift constantly, and success is never guaranteed.
